13 Mar / Doing Good for the Greater Good

Recently, the Sabre crew again had the pleasure of volunteering at Cradles to Crayons in Brighton, MA.

Cradles to CrayonsCradles to Crayons (C2C for short) provides children in need with life’s essentials, including clothing, shoes, school supplies, toys, and more. They receive donations—new or used items in good condition—from large corporations like Carter’s and New Balance, and from do-gooders like you. The donations enter a big warehouse, where they are evaluated, sorted, packaged and sent off to local deserving children, for whom the donations were specifically requested. In 2012, C2C assisted 305,000 Massachusetts children in need!

Who evaluates, sorts, packages and sends off the supplies, you ask? Volunteers like us! Last year, Sabre helped sort and bundle age-appropriate books. This year, we were tasked with a different (and as most of us thought, very special!) job—carefully selecting requested donation items (everything from hats and gloves to arts and crafts) from the available inventory and gathering them for delivery to each child in need. As members of the “Shopping Station,” we each received a shopping cart and a specific list of items needed for each child. We then got to peruse the warehouse aisles and select the appropriate, pre-sorted items to fit that child’s needs. We even got to select birthday gifts for a few of the children with upcoming birthdays. As a team, Sabre fulfilled and assembled 54 packages to be sent to hopeful and anticipating families!
